Let's start by saying it was hot.

I arrived with our newest MTDR member Anna Craddy.  She's from MI and has ridden "trails" there for a while and was ready for Westpoint.  Paul Fluss was the only other to join us which was great but I was hoping for a few more.

We left Gas Stop about 8:00 am, a bit behind schedule but it still was not to hot.  The goal was to do the entire A-loop with both new sections, about 24 miles.  A mile or so in we stopped to allow Anna to catch up.  She looked at Paul and I and said, "these are not trails there are little ditches the rain water follows through."  Welcome to TN single track.  Did I say that they has a ton of rain there recently.

With the trails a bit overgrown we pressed on.  We made it about a third of the way through the new section of A on the west side of Ore road well before Monkey Head and both Anna and her bike had over heated.  She rode like a champ and with some coaching sent it up a few hills like an animal but the heat got her.  Did I mention she was on a stock older YZ250F.

She picked up Ore road and headed back to Gas Stop.  I give her an A for effort and sticking it out.  Welcome to MTDR we are glad to have you aboard.

Paul and I the proceeded to haul the mail.  With a stop at the falls to cool off  and one more stop before the new section of A just past the A split.

We only encountered a few downed trees and minor trail diversions.  The dirt was great and it was't very muddy at all.

But once we emerged from the woods at noon, Paul and I were spent.  It was way to hot and we were both done.

If you didn't make it, well you missed a great ride.  Next time I think I'm going to explore the trails on the west side by event parking.  James Gates tells me he has ridden a 20ish mile loop there.

On the way back we stopped at Shaffer Farms Custom Meat to pick up some steaks for dinner.  If you haven't stopped I highly recommend it.  They sell Prime meats and have a great restaurant as well.
